R&d Cooperation, Innovation Spillovers and Firm Location in a Model of Environmental Policy
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper, the reaction of firms to the introduction of environmental charges in a given industry is analysed. Firms may decide either to relocate their plants abroad or to adopt a new environmental-friendly technology. The latter can be either developed by investing in R&D or obtained by buying a licence. We show that, even if domestic firms share the same initial technology, at the equilibrium they make different choices in response to the same environmental policy. Some firms decide to cooperate in carrying out environmental R&D, other firms re-locate their plants abroad, and a third group decides to innovate through imitation. The size of the three groups can be affected by the government's industrial, trade and environmental policies. * University of Venice, CEPR, FEEM and GRETA. R&d Cooperation and Spillovers: Some Empirical Evidence from Belgium
Successful innovation depends on the development and integration of new knowledge in the innovation process. Part of this knowledge will reach the firm from external sources. Several authors have documented the existence of these external information flows and have commented on their importance for decisions at the firm level (Adam B. One challenge facing this literature has been the measuremen...
متن کاملInnovation, regional knowledge spillovers and R&D cooperation
We investigate the impact of knowledge spillovers and R&D cooperation on innovation activities in three German regions. We begin by estimating the knowledge-production function in order to test for interregional difference with regard to the efficiency of innovation activities. In a second step, we analyze the contribution of spillovers from R&D effort of other private firms and of public resea...
متن کاملStochastic control model for R&D race in a mixed duopoly with spillovers and knowledge stocks
We consider the stochastic control model with finite time horizon for a mixed duopoly R&D (Research and Development) race between the profit-maximizing private firm and welfaremaximizing public firm. In our two-firm stochastic control R&D race model with input and output spillovers, the stochastic control variable is taken to be the private firm’s rate of R&D expenditure and the hazard rate of ...

This paper examines the determinants of R&D cooperation focusing on the relationship between firms R&D cooperation and knowledge spillovers on a sample of Italian innovative firms drawn from the Italian Fourth Community Innovation Survey. I explore this relationships taking into account different types of R&D cooperations and the endogeneity problems which arise from the likely mutual dependenc...
